Apparel Design
Collection 2
Spring 2019

Course Description: Learning to design for target market, design thinking, designing collections and croquis.

For this assignment, I was tasked with creating four different outfits for a children's wear collection. I got my inspiration from a previous "mood board", the movie Moana and some pictures on pintrest. I decided to go with a vacation style collection because it was almost summer and the colors in my mood board reminded me of a tropic getaway full of life and adventure. I created looks for girls age 3-17 with multi functional pieces. For instance, the "little kid" is wearing a one piece bathing suit with an elastic band around the chest and openings of the sleeves. The bottom is a simple wrap skirt with a closure at the top to ensure the piece stays closed, and a tie on the same side for reassurance of closure. The shoes are waterproof and will have a zipper down the back for easy dressing and removal. My other pieces are versatile in comfort and age group, all include a bathing suit and a style that suits the mindset of the wearer.

Final Project

Course Description: Using patterns to create garments, learning how to use a sewing machine, learning different stitches and techniques, and creating sample booklet of stitches.

The objective of this project was to create two projects using the sewing machine. We had the option to do a pillow and pajama pants, but I found this awesome fabric that I really wanted to use and made a pajama top and bottom. I struggled with the pattern at first, just because I am a visual person and couldn't see the outcome when first sewing my garments together, but with plenty of reassurance from my professor I executed the project to my desired design. We traced the pattern, cut out the pattern pieces and our fabric, used the sewing machine to create seams and alterations and used pinking shears and zig-zag stitching to keep fabric from unraveling.

Education Window Display

Course Description: Intended to guide me in creating well designed and executed window displays through lighting fixtures, decor, fabrics, mannequins, posters and non-verbal communication.

This project was my favorite from this course. I loved the Reggio Approach the early education program used in their classroom, which made this project a breeze.  I did some research on how reggio classrooms effect students, how they are to be designed and decorated and what creative supplies they offer to the students. Then I came up with a sketch of how I wanted the window to look and found the materials I needed. The last step was putting everything together. I believe that this was some of my best work, and I absolutely think that I did the early education program justice with this display.
